Assalamualaikum w.b.T

Well it is little bit weird now. Because I’m not a person who like to share some experiences with people but I like to dig and take it from people. ( the unfair way is my style..haha )…

Last Wednesday my group had been given a chance to join the operation one more time. Actually this is 3rd time I see the operation. 2 times in Egypt and once in USM, Malaysia.
For my views, of course Malaysia got better technology, hehe…Anyway, this time I would to share with my reader a laparoscopic splenectomy.

At 8 o’clock, we all arrive ( not all actually, just people who tend to be a early comerssss ). Then, one of the doctor who is responsible for the operation give some ideas about the surgery and some discussion about spleen and blood. As all we know spleen is the organ which is responsible for destruction of old RBC. For our knowledge, RBC life-span is 120days which is equal to 4months.What about range RBC count??

• Women: 4.2 to 5.4 million/uL
• Men: 4.7 to 6.1 million/uL
• Children: 4.6 to 4.8 million/uL

How does spleen can be enlarged???...Actually there are some numbers of infections and diseases can contribute to an enlarge spleen including viral infections such as mononucleosis, bacterial infections such as syphilis or endocarditis, maybe caused by parasitic infection such as malaria, cirrhosis and other diseases affecting the liver. Splenomegaly also can be caused by various type of hemolytic anaemia, blood cancer such as leukaemia and Hodgkin disease and so on..

Spleen that have been pulled out by the doctor. hehe..( Pulled out! )

The patient who was undergoes operation, most of all knew him. Why? Because 2 days before the surgery, some of us take some personal data and bla bla…..But when we all asked about complaint ( syakwah eyh? In Arabic language )… the patient smile and told us ‘ittihor’…at first we all are astonished…( becoz we dont understand and some pretend to be understood ..haha )…then the patient once more time said ‘ittihor’ with his hand on upper left quadrant which is spleen I thought….then we do some examination which is consist of general and local examination. In between local and general we should examine vital sign also. By palpation we could feel some swelling on his abdomen.
Then, bla bla bla..

About the surgery, after the patient was unconscious ( anaesthetized )…the doctors begin their work…then finished at 11 o’clock. That is mean …I missed my lecture again ( because the surgery is so interesting…time passed w/o we noticed )….*sigh*..

p/s: I don’t care my grammar..haha sorry for being so broken grammar.( since it is my territory ). :)
